The horned lizard (Phrynosoma cornutum)
The horned lizard (blood crier) it’s a very particular type of lizard because of the ability of crying blood from its eyes.
This lizard has a body formed by 294 bones without counting its scales that are used as a defense mechanism.
This lizards have a double row of spines on each side of the abdomen.
The general colorization of this lizards is yellow, red, gray or orange with a brown touch but in the most cases its gray. This lizards have dark spots with clear and conspicuous dorsal posterior edges.
This lizards are 10 to 12 centimetres large and the male ones are a Little bigger than the female ones.
The principal habitat of this lizards are the deserts of México and United States.
The horned lizards feed with ants and other type of insects like the cockroaches.
This lizard is threatened and near the extintion danger.
The Phrynosoma cornutum its oviparous. It can deposit 40 or more eggs, the eggs hatch normally six weeks until born.
The newly born lizards are 3 centimetres large.
