Can you live playing videogames?
Nowadays, around the world there are millions of "gamers", people who spend their free times playing videogames or making content about it, I mean, there are also streamers, people who are making a constant transmission about a videogame.
Knowing those basics things, do you think there may be people who lives from playing? Yes, of course they can, and they're actually doing it.
Well, let's start by the basic things. Actually, professional gaming it's a sport, and it's called eSports. As you know, for each kind of sport there are competitions and championships (one of them may be the UEFA Champions League, in football), so, why don't have e Sports championships?
The eSports championships are in progressive expansion, getting bigger every day and gaining terrain with leaps and bounds since the 2000's. In Korea the eSports activity is more developed than other countries, an example of this may be the licenses they’re giving to professional players since the 2000’s. In 2013, Danny “Shiphtur” became the first League of Legends pro player for receive a P-1A visa, document which recognizes international athletes.
The most popular competitive games in 2016 are Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and League of Legends. The biggest price earned by a team was about 18 million dollars, winning a Dota 2 tournament.
Personally I like the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive because (besides I play this game) it’s a very interesting game in which you need eye-hands coordination, fast thinking, good communication and teamwork. The most actual biggest competition was the MLG Columbus 2016, a Major tournament accomplished on April, which price was 1 million dollar, granted to the Brazilian team “Luminosity Gaming”.
