The First Electric Bus in Chile

Yesterday, May 4th, the first electric bus in Chile was released.

The bus, which belongs to BYD company, began to work yesterday, and it has a 70 passenger capacity and Wi-Fi connection for making the trip not a common one. The useful life of its batteries are about 15 years, and they need 5 hours of charging so it can run about 250 kilometers. The cost of recharge its batteries are about CLP$20.000, so, if it can travel 1 kilometer per kilowatt, the cost of travel one kilometer is about CLP$80. Wonderful, isn’t it?

Apart of these features, the jam of it it’s that is 100% electric and free!

I think this is an excellent idea, I mean using these transport ways, but… do the Chilean people have enough culture to take care of the buses?

For me this is more than clear that this class of buses are almost perfect (in relation performance/cost), but it doesn’t matter how much it works for the community, because they will get scratched and painted by those stupid people with sprays and markers.

The cause that makes me think this type of things is that in Chile the culture is so poor and the care for the public patrimony is almost zero, and there isn’t conscience and neither care to make the communitary things stay alive through the time, as the bus stops, that are all broken and scratched, and you are almost afraid of being near them. That’s why I’m secure that this bus will not be working correctly more than a year, it’s more than that, I’m daring to say that this bus will not stay working (in perfect conditions) more than 6 months. Am I the only one that think this way?
