The end of the Philosophy subject in the schools

The education ministry has presented the proposal of deleting the philosophy subject of the schools, which is a subject that is aplicated for 10th and 11th grade.

The idea of deleting philosophy from the subjects is creating a transversal common plan, which would be aplicated in the scientific, humanist, artistic and technical education, where would add the citizen formation subject as a mandatory subject that have characteristic elements of the philosophy subject, with that the mandatory subjects would be arts, science, history, physical education, language, math, advisory class and citizen education, being the last one the subject that contains the philosophy subject.

From my opinion, I think that deleting philosophy and change it for another subject with little elements more means an error, because deleting a subject and change it with the same subject with another name, isn’t the best option that the education ministry of Chile would do.

According to the rector of the Diego Portales University, Carlos Peña, the philosophy subject its important because it produces that the people grow and learn of the society and the life itself.

The philosophy subject helps to improve the reflexive and critic capacity of people, in the afan of asking everything, taking leading to the limit of its capacities, the philosophy helps to improve your knowledge, when you demand the base of everything that its in front of you, because the philosophy can teach, to anyone that know it, to refuse the received ideas and incite people to think by themselves and pass from an student to an adult talking intellectually.
